Description: A highland species from the mountains of West Sumatera.  Considerable taxonomic confusion surrounds this species, which was described in 1840 from a plant collected on Gunung Merapi.  Recent revisions of the genus have combined N. bongso with plants previously regarded as N. carunculata.  The red or purple lower pitchers can be quite large and have a wide peristome reminiscent of N. veitchii of Borneo.  Upper pitchers are greenish and funnel-shaped.  Plants of N. bongso can often be found growing as epiphytes in mossy forest.

Cultivation recommendations:
A rewarding and easy to grow species.  Cool, humid conditions should be provided as for other highland species. See also: How to Grow Nepenthes
