Description: A common montane species occuring throughout Peninsular Malaysia. Its name refers to the often reddish (sanguine) coloration of the pitchers, though green and spotted varieties also occur. The ovoid/tubular pitchers can be quite large and have been recorded reaching lengths of over one foot. This species is often found growing alongside N. macfarlanei . N. ramispina, with which it forms frequent hybrids.
Cultivation recommendations: A very easy growing highland species, preferring cool temperatures but tolerating warm conditions well (N. sanguinea has been grown with success in the heated greenhouse). See also: How to Grow Nepenthes
